Vocational Training and  Future Leaders

According to the 2021 World Bank Tanzania Education Sector Institutional and Governance Assessment report, 28% of Tanzanian children are not enrolled in secondary school and only 3.1% have access to tertiary education (UNESCO). The Bursary Support Program was created to increase the number of students accessing secondary school and tertiary education. The program has succeeded in improving access to tertiary education for students from low-income families, who would otherwise have had no means of funding their education. The program has supported students enrolled at secondary schools, vocational colleges, and universities.

Bursary Support Programme successes

  • A previously sponsored student achieved the highest mark in the sixth form examinations and has secured a place at university to study Food Science and Technology.
  • Eight (8) students successfully completed vocational and technical training in Tailoring, Cookery, Plumbing, Electrical Installations, and Motor Vehicle Mechanics.
  • In recent years, we have witnessed an improved pass rate among high school students, compared to previous years. This progress is largely attributed to the Library and Bursary Support Programme, which provides greater access to learning materials and ensures that students who perform well receive financial assistance for university.
  • In 2022, Msimbati Secondary School (the closest school to Wentworth’s gas operations) achieved a remarkable milestone. For the first time in the school’s history, 60 students passed the national examinations—making all of them eligible for university entry.
